Single-Payer 50 State Strategy
Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 01:37:12 PM PDT
The idea for this diary was inspired by Ozzie's diary "Illinois Single Payer Drama Week". The Illinois legislature has started work on HB 311.
I'd love to see some action on the federal level with something like representative Conyer's bill HR-676 enacted. Unfortunately, the odds seem slim for that happening at this time. So, What else can we do? Being a proponent of Single-Payer and living in California I support state senator Kuehl's effort to get SB-840 passed, but why stop just a couple of states?

UPDATE: Question about Labor Law
Wed Feb 27, 2008 at 10:58:26 PM PDT
This will be a short diary, but I need to get some information.
I was recently in a Staples store to make a purchase and while I was there I inquired about a position there (Yes I'm that desperate). I was told to go to Staples website. Well, to make a long story short. I went to the website and selected the link to fill out the application. The first fill in the blank part asks you for your Social Security Number... and that is where I have a problem. Follow me below.
Updated: Donkey with a Mohawk - the GOP's worst nightmare!
Sun Oct 28, 2007 at 10:20:02 AM PDT
Anyone remember Lynda Barry's Poodle with a MoHawk? Well, I think we need to create a poster or t-shirt using the same idea but with a donkey (or a liberal) as the central character. Why? Because it would be funny as hell while kinda inspiring as well ( for us NOT the GOP).
Joe Zawinul 1932-2007 RIP
Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 03:56:09 PM PDT
IF you know anything about jazz then you've probably heard of Weather Report and it's keyboardist Joe Zawinul. Alas, Joe has passed, but the music he help make lives on. Joe, where ever you are thank you.
Arnold delivers some good news.
Sat Sep 08, 2007 at 01:51:17 PM PDT
I just finished reading a L.A Times blog by Scott Martelle titled - Schwarzenegger: 'We are dying at the box office'. Most of the entry is a copy of the prepared text for Arnold's speech at the Republican's state convention that took place Friday. Here is the linky.

Sicko inspires grassroots action in Dallas cinema

Here is some inspiration instead of the usual gloom and doom. This diary will be short, but thought it worth burning karma. :-)
I found this while poking around boingboing today.

Marketing SP/UHC healthcare
Thu Feb 08, 2007 at 11:13:27 AM PDT
I have yet to see any mention of HR676 specifically on any of the political talk shows or in the newspapers or any other MSM outlet. Whenever the subject of health care comes up it usually Arnold's or Romney's plan that gets brought up or about the evils of "socialized medicine".
I have read many excellent diaries here explaining the benefits of a single payer/ universal health care system (like HR676) and have learned a great deal about the subject, but there comes a time to stop preaching to the choir and start getting the good word out. So, one has to ask one's self how do we get the word out about HR676?
I have some suggestions below the fold.
DNS: Improving your web browser experience
Thu Feb 01, 2007 at 06:36:01 PM PDT
I don't know about you but I hate it when websites load real slow. Since Time/Warner took over Adelphia my web browser experience was pretty dismal. How so you say? After all you have broadband speed with your cable modem... Well yes that is true, but there is more to fast website access than raw bandwidth. There is this thing called DNS otherwise known as Domain Name Service that can affect how long it takes to access a website.
Let me explain how it works and what you can do to speed up your website browsing experience.
Energy independence - pond scum to the rescue?
Wed Jan 10, 2007 at 11:15:19 AM PDT
No this isn't a how to turn Rush and friends into a barrel of oil, although the thought has some appeal. Instead this is about the use of algae to produce biodiesel that is a viable source of environment friendly alternative energy.
Who would be on your dream team?
Sun Nov 12, 2006 at 12:06:17 PM PDT
I was reading recently about fantasycongress.org and it got me thinking why not ask folks here who would be on their dream team? Why go through this exercise? Well, I believe that if you can visualize something happening then often times you can make it happen. Fortune benefits those who are prepared to make use of it.
Just to get the ball rolling here are a few of my picks.
On the Supreme Court, for example, I thought of Spitzer and Fitzgerald as being good picks for SCOTUS or Attorney General.
Gore (if not the future Prez) as head of EPA. Edwards as Secretary of Labor. Clinton as Ambassador to the U.N.
Who you want on your dream team?
Gore to speak at University of Redlands
Tue Sep 12, 2006 at 11:29:30 AM PDT
This will be a very short diary, but I thought it worth letting So Cal Kossacks know about this event.
Al Gore will be speaking at the U. of Redlands on Nov. 7th.
The lecture will start at 7:30 pm in the Memorial Chapel.
Tickets will be made available to the general public starting Oct 24. Tickets cost - $10.
Redlands is part of CD-41 which is Jerry Lewis' district. It would be nice to have a large number of the reality based community to be there to show Gore our support.
