To all of our Service Men and Women who gave their lives for our nations, both the U.S. and Canada...And to all of our Vets who have come home... Thank you so much for your service...

So much has been made in the MSM about the Democratic candidates' religion and their ties to what some call "radical" pastors... And yet the GOP candidates get a pass..

Hopefully, not after today...

This is a rant...

What are the basics for Humankind, eh?  Food, water, shelter....

And, for the majority of us "Have Nots"... they are ALL being threatened...and yet not ONE candidate of EITHER party is speaking to these issues with other than "trust me, I've got a plan!"....

Not ONE of them has addressed the nation to lay out these challenges that face us in stark relief...Too scary for the average citizen to think about? Or are we just too stupid and too apathetic to care? These issues threaten the "American Way of Life" that Cheney has said is "non-negotiable".... But it is clear to some of us who ARE paying attention that that attitude will only end us up in a greater disaster than we already face...

Think it cannot happen here? Think again, it already is...

I am white, with Native American ancestry. I am female...I will be 54 this month...And, I am Pagan...a practicing Solitary Wiccan with a deep concern for our Mother Earth...My path is my own, and I am deeply committed to it. I am not the "warm and fuzzy" kind of Pagan, I am not a pacifist by a long shot.......And the "Christianization" of the U.S. simply terrifies me....

I am a "Socialist Democrat" who believes deeply in things like single payer healthcare for all...lifting the poor out of poverty not with hand-outs...but with hand-ups.

Never before has religion played such a huge role in our government or our politics...And it is clear to anyone who has eyes to see with, and ears to hear with, that it has the potential to devide and distroy our Nation...from within.

If ANY of the canadiates for President believe what this man has said...then we are all deep in trouble....

"Anti-Business Populists"....in case you were wondering, that is ~supposed~ to be you and I and anyone else who may think that Corporations are NOT People, and shouldn't have the same Rights (or more) as living, breathing human beings.

This is something that I have yet to see discussed here in depth...If it has, forgive me, I must have missed it...I feel this is of such great importance to the whole Presidential debate.... I have tried to interject this into comments in some of the other threads about the various candidates. But to no avail. There is so much shouting going on that it has barely gotten noticed...

And so...

Yesterday my husband and I watched a scifi marathon on cable network. Showing were various slasher films (hubby's favorites), plus "Men In Black II" and...my all time favorite, "Independence Day".

While I watch just about every movie that Will Smith makes, good or bad, because I like him, it is not just him I watch ID4 for... I watch it for the speech that the character, President Thomas J. Whitmore; former Persian Gulf War fighter pilot and current President of the United States, (played by Bill Pulman) makes just before the final battle with the alien invaders...

Back in August of 2005 I wrote a series of diaries about how corporations came into the power they now enjoy. At the time there wasn't a whole lot of interest...but now, in light of John Edwards' courage in speaking truth to power - perhaps it is time for a brief review...eh?

The folks at USPatriotsUnited have done it again. They have written a timely reminder for us, entitled "Do Unto Others: Common Sense In Action" In this essay they have focused on the fifth of the ten Characteristics of A True US Patriot.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

We learned the Golden Rule as children. It is such a clear-cut concept. Eloquent in it's simplicity. Our basic human instincts are to be good to each other, to care about each other, and this instinct has caused this concept to become a fundamental part of pretty much every religion known to man, in one form or another. An easy to follow blueprint for a peaceful and equitable coexistence within our societies.

What a simple concept. Something we are taught as children and that we now take for granted.

And yet today, as our President fights for his Supreme Court nominee, and anticipates his prospects of seating a new Chief Justice in the coming years, we are faced with the very real possibility of all three branches of our government being controlled by one political party, to the disadvantage of the People who are in the minority.

The accumulation of that much power into the hands of one party would end our Republic, in favor of one party rule.

The folks at USPatriotsUnited have posted another essay "A Balancing Act" on the topic of Checks and Balances. It is well worth the read if nothing else but to remind all of us of the steady slide towards tyranny that James Madison warned us about so many years ago.
