Disenfranchising Puerto Rico
Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 04:39:05 AM PDT
Puerto Rico is next in line to be disenfranchised!
or not ...
how exactly is it that they vote for the primaries but can't for the general?
Poor Hillary's about to lose her 'popular vote' claim to fame after South Dakota and Montana since the PR votes don't count for the general election ...

So, on a tip from a friend I did a little digging
seems that today we suffered what has termed as a tumble
shortly followed by the pronouncement that
the drop was the largest in five years.

re: netroots activism

this is from an email I received:
Grassroots Organizations Like EdAction Are Under Attack
Stop the U.S. Senate from Restricting Grassroots Activism.
Call Both of Your Senators NOW:
The United States Senate debated an Ethics Reform bill, Senate Bill 1, this week, which includes a section that subjects "grassroots lobbying" to government regulations. Grassroots lobbying has long been seen as separate and distinct from "lobbying activity." With this bill, our efforts to empower you with action alerts will be subject to government regulation.
Limbaugh's free and so are Fla. Medical records
Sat Apr 29, 2006 at 10:09:04 PM PDT
So Limbaugh walks pending his staying clean from pharmabuse, but is he the only on who benefits?
This bit from the UK Guardian caught my eye:
Is the deal a victory for Limbaugh?
``This is a dismissal of the charge ... representing, in affect, a win for the defense,'' said Kendall Coffey, a former U.S. attorney and prominent Miami defense lawyer.
``Having said that, I wouldn't call this case a major defeat for the prosecution. They fought and won an important legal point in establishing that you can use a search warrant in Florida to secure medical records,'' Coffey added. ``That's an important precedent for prosecutors around the state. This could be the rare situation where both sides made a deal and can walk away feeling some satisfaction.''

In
America's masterplan is to force GM food on the world by John Vidal in the
Guardian we see further how the WTO as a trade regulatory agency continues to push forward policies which support neo-liberal economic agendas at cost to the people and environment.
A Conspiracy Theory

Here's a
bad theory
Reagan communicated with the evil aliens and devised to entrap reality in wage salvery.
reality:
inequality exists
people with greater finances have a larger say on the operation of our government.
disparity of wealth is inreasing (US)

Nuclear War? As long as it's just a little one ...
Fri Jul 01, 2005 at 04:17:39 PM PDT
And in other news:
Senate Keeps 'Bunker-Buster' Program Alive
from the BBC:
"The Senate early Friday voted 53-43 to include $4 million for research into the feasibility of a bunker-buster nuclear warhead. Earlier this year, the House refused to provide the money, so a final decision will have to be worked between the two chambers."
...
"At a congressional hearing earlier this year, Linton Brooks, head of the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees nuclear weapons programs, acknowledged that there is no way to avoid significant fallout of radioactive debris from use of a bunker-buster warhead."
Tactical Nukes are still wrong ... the damage to both humans and the environment is severely long term and irreversable, but the administration continues to try and sell this bitter pill (essentially a kickback to the tune of millions for the nuclear and military industrial complex)
Bushco is continuing to address the problems the world faces today with a "Might makes Right" strategy etc etc

Framing
Wed Nov 17, 2004 at 03:33:59 AM PDT
So, I've been tihinking about parties and messages, and it seems to me that the Democratic Party needs a clear and well-defined party message. The Republicans seem to be locking up "family values" and "homeland security" among others.
What vlaues can we define as central to the part?
Social justice?
Flexibility?
At the same time the Republicans seem to be very clear on the issues upon which they can be assailed. A part of the strategy seems to be accusing the opponent of what you are also guilty, allowing for the "pot and kettle" dialogue.
I think it is time for the democratic party to embarce unity and diversity and know that we can be strong and united in difference.
E-Mail re: Ohio vote count
Sat Nov 13, 2004 at 12:05:15 AM PDT
I received this e-mail regarding the Ohio vote.
Apparantly the vote count was way off (93,136 votes).
This has good implications for the potential recount if we can gain enough momentum. There only remains a discrepancy of aprox. 37k votes after the extra votes have been eliminated.
It seems of utmost importance to get this info circulated and take action before the electoral college meet and vote on 13 December.
