The House did NOT uphold Bush's veto, the House failed to overturn Bush's veto. Important sematic difference.

It's a tragedy, but we still need to impeach

Thu Aug 02, 2007 at 07:08:29 AM PDT

I have lived in Minneapolis for most of my adult life. I have driven over the 35W bridge many times. I was by it just a few days ago. The collapse of the bridge is a terrible tragedy for the dead and injured and their families and friends. My heart goes out to all of them. The loss of the bridge will be a dreadful nuisance for everyone for a long time.

But...

Will you be able to vote in 2008?

Wed Sep 20, 2006 at 09:13:33 PM PDT

I searched and there didn't seem to be a diary on this. I think it could be vital in the 2008 election.

The House just passed H.R. 4844, which would require i.d. cards in order to vote in federal elections.

Happy New Year - a fantasy

Holiday 2007 Diary

What a year this has been! In January, thanks to the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress, we saw the speedy impeachment of both Bush and Cheney. Bush didn't have the sense Nixon did, and sat through the conviction hearings like he was expecting his fairy godmother to rescue him. She didn't of course, since Rove was in jail by then. I don't think he really understood that he was being removed from office. I understand there was an offer that if he would resign, he could just go back to his ranch. But he stayed, and now he is back on the ranch under house arrest while the trials drag on. Cheney was considered a flight risk, and now languishes in a federal holding facility.

Disgusted with Minneapolis Democrats

Sat May 14, 2005 at 11:19:26 AM PDT

Today is the Minneapolis Democratic Party city convention. It was supposed to officially start at 10 am, with registration starting at 9 am. On the agenda, endorsing candidates for mayor, Park Board, Library Board. At noon, we were already home again, but not because it was over.

Open your mind and see the women...

Sat Mar 19, 2005 at 11:51:54 AM PDT

Lately, there has been a lot of buzz in the MSM that there aren't many women bloggers. Of course there are women blogging. And blacks, and old people and teens. But the norm, the default in many peoples' minds in this culture is white, male, straight (heterosexual), able-bodied, middle class. The internet is a metaphorical mirror, in which you see what you expect to see. The old New Yorker cartoon caption still applies "On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog." Because no one is expecting a dog on the internet, and the MSM isn't expecting women bloggers.

Twin Cities Kossacks

Mon Mar 14, 2005 at 01:26:59 PM PDT

I've noticed that there are a number of cities where the kossacks get together in person. Are there enough of us in the Twin Cities to make such an event worthwhile here?

In case you think matters are moving too slowly on the whole Gannon scandal, here's a quick history lesson.
