Focus on the Family Targeting 8 States for Nov. Election

Sun Sep 10, 2006 at 12:22:19 PM PDT

Rove and his minions have kicked into gear just in time for the November elections. Eight states have been targeted as possible pick-ups or pick-offs because of the number people attending church in those states. The eight targeted states are:

Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

If you live in those states and attend church please keep your eyes and ears open for clergy, pastors and religious leaders who cross the line. I recently received the following email from Americans United for Seperation of Church and State:

Olbermann's ratings pass his nemesis

Thu Jul 06, 2006 at 07:39:46 AM PDT

As we Kossacks are well aware, Keith Olbermann's show Countdown has been increasing steadily in ratings for over a year. He slowly sneaked past Paula Zahn on CNN and now regularly surpasses her ratings. Who can resist his combination of hard hitting headlines combined with snark and silliness?

Guess who Olbermann finally surpassed in the key demographics on Friday?

Bill O'Reilly O'Falafel!

Is Olbermann ready for network news? w/ poll

Thu Nov 10, 2005 at 06:46:59 AM PDT

Les Moonves, CEO of CBS, has been thinking about revamping the CBS news since the deconstruction of Dan Rather. While CBS dukes it out with ABC for #1 in primetime each week, CBS's network news ratings are consistantly last.

Moonves doesn't like 3rd place and has toyed with several different options from a multi-anchor broadcast to a bubble headed bleached blonde who comes on at five, tells you of a plane crash with a gleam in her eye. In January Moonves said:

"Those days are over when you have that guy sitting behind the desk who everyone believes to the `nth' degree," Moonves told reporters. "It's sort of an antiquated way of news telling and maybe there's a new way of doing it."

Nashville Counters "Just Us" Sunday with Community of Faith and Unity and Protests!

Mon Aug 15, 2005 at 08:35:24 AM PDT

It was a hot day in Nashville as over 700 people gathered at the Community of Faith and Unity to oppose "Just Us Sunday" on the other side of town. Two friends and myself carpooled in a friends Prius to join everyone at the Cathedral of Praise at 4300 Clarksville Hwy in Nashville. Glenn Smith of Drive Democracy and author of The Politics of Deceit, and Rev. Jerry Maynard II coordinated the event.  The Community of Faith and Unity had 11 speakers from both the Nashville area and the national Freedom and Faith Forum.

The rally opened in this beautiful church with great music and singing. Rev. Jerry Maynard II made the opening remarks and his father, Bishop Jerry L Maynard spoke about how true salvation cannot be legislated.

Louisville, KY - Notes from the Freedom and Faith Rally

Mon Apr 25, 2005 at 05:27:19 AM PDT

On Friday night, my husband decided he didn't want to go to Louisville on Sunday so I thought I would have to live vicariously through others attending the function. But then Kos fate jumped in and another Kossack from Nashville, Meg posted a comment offering to share a ride to Louisville. Yeah! We chatted for a while Saturday afternoon (I quickly decided that she wasn't a radical Republican who was going to shoot me and drop me in the woods somewhere off I-65) and we made our plans. We left at 9:30am and the trip up was just two liberal gals chatting to our hearts content with bathroom stops, caffeine and Taco Bell to interrupt us along the way.

We got into Louisville about 2:00pm. The event was held at the beautiful Central Presbyterian Church on Kentucky Ave. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Behind the Curtain: Fundamental Pharmacists

Wed Apr 20, 2005 at 04:44:51 AM PDT

Last week a friend, who is in healthcare, and I were discussing pharmacists, the pill and religion. She stated that there are many more pharmacists out there who would refuse to fill birth control prescriptions than we even realize. I wondered, with that intellectual curiosity that the current President lacks, where are these pharmacists coming from? What colleges are they going to? How are they paying for 5-6 years of college? Are there scholarships available only to Christians to attend universities and get a Pharmacology degree? So in e pluribus media style, I googled, and below the jump is what I found. What frightens me the most is that I am sure there are many more organizations like Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International.

Elizabeth Edwards - the media, blogs and John

Thu Mar 03, 2005 at 07:14:11 AM PDT

Five Minutes with Elizabeth Edwards
From a February 14 interview in Campus Progress via JREGrassroots,

What Mrs. Edwards has to say about the media and blogs:

EE: After the recent election I've been spending a lot of time on channels that have to do with garden landscaping because it was just easier for me, less heartburn. I just get very frustrated listening to mainstream media, like they will report that the new budget increases money for Pell Grants. I just want to say, I beg your pardon? They're cutting off 90,000 people from those grants, and it isn't even part of the discussion.

I do listen to CSPAN in the car and Air America and Talk Left radio. I read the Washington Post and the New York Times. But I go to a lot of websites, I spend a lot of time on the internet. I get a lot of information from blogs, I have a whole list including Talking Points, Daily Kos, Democratic Underground and more. Sometimes I check out the right wing sites to see what they are talking about. I have a whole folder of sites and I open them all up every day and see what catches my eye.
