Why Obama should not pick Clinton as VP

Mon Jun 02, 2008 at 07:57:22 AM PDT

The suggestion has been around for ages - a dream ticket for some, a nightmare for others.

An Obama/Clinton ticket.

Recently I've been getting a wee bit worried that Obama might actually be considering it - and idea which absolutely horrifies me, because I think it will seriously damage his chances of beating McCain in November.

This is why:

Tony Blair is quitting - AT LAST!!! (warning: rant ahead)

Thu May 10, 2007 at 04:19:09 AM PDT

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Tony!

Or, as Steve Bell put it in this Guardian cartoon - "He focused too much on spin".

Actually, I think Steve's being far too kind. I have nothing remotely good to say to Tony Blair as he announces his step-down as Prime Minister.

Faked scenes are included in New Zealand Path to 9/11

Sun Sep 10, 2006 at 05:16:17 AM PDT

Just before DKos went down for maintenance I was writing a diary about the faked scenes still being in the promo. That was a few hours ago now, and I've watched and live-blogged part 1 of the "show" now. It's pretty long, so rather than put it all in here, here's a link to my live blog. I'm now tidying it up so it makes more sense. As you will see, they appear to have left in the fake scenes for the NZ version.

It does blame Clinton and his team, both for not giving the order to shoot Bin Laden when they had the chance, and for stirring them up by attempting to attack them later, so that OSB was angered anough to declare war on America. There's lots more. Take a look at my blog.

Meanwhile, below the fold you'll find what I was originally going to write in this diary...

UPDATED: My complaint to TV One in New Zealand re: Path to 9/11

Fri Sep 08, 2006 at 09:09:39 PM PDT

TV One in New Zealand is planning to screen The Path to 9/11 on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 September at 7.30pm. It's being billed as the world premiere. 7.30pm Sunday in NZ is 3.30am Sunday in New York and 12.30am Sunday in Los Angeles.

What's really got me mad (apart from the fact that they are showing it at all!) is the way they are promoting it, which I consider to be grossly misleading. Cue dramatic music...

Words flashed across screen showing scenes from the mini-series accompanied by voiceover "You know WHAT happened. Now see HOW it happened."

Yet another natural disaster - but why does the caring stop?

There was a deadly earthquake on the Indonesian island of Java yesterday. The death toll currently stands at over 3,000 and rising, with many thousands injured and an estimated 200,000 homeless. Mt Merapi, a nearby volcano, has been spewing ash and lava for a week now, and is still threatening to blow.

Britain has pledged up to £3 million to meet Java's immediate and urgent needs. The European Commission has offered €3m, and the Irish government has donated €500,000. I am sure that many other countries have also already pledged funds, or will do within the next day or so. There'll be fundraisers, appeals on TV, and NGOs and relief agencies in the region will urge the public to give generously. And I'm sure they will. For a week or so. Then it will all go quiet, and the world's attention will move on to the next disaster, the next drama, the next government scandal or the next piece of gossip about their favourite celebrity. And the people of Yogyakarta and surrounding regions will be left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives - alone.
