It may be too late, but I wrote this letter to my Senators

Sat Nov 06, 2004 at 06:35:34 PM PDT

I do not think Senator Harry Reid (NV) is a good choice for Senate Minority Leader. The only news I can find about picking a Democratic leader in the senate to replace Daschle seems to suggest that Reid is already selected. Being completely new to this whole thing, I may be naive in thinking Senator John F. Kerry should be the best or at least preferred leader of our party in the senate. But despite all that, I decided to write to Senators Corzine and Lautenberg of New Jersey, the state where I currently reside, as well as Senators Mikulski and Sarbanes of Maryland where I recently moved from.

Here is my letter:

Before we strategize, we must step back

Fri Nov 05, 2004 at 12:12:42 AM PDT

In the wake of the rage/grief/paralysis/desperation that the last (4 years and) 2 days have provided, a lot of us have contributed strategies for how we can defeat the republicans in upcoming elections. I have read opinions on how the Democratic party should go to the left, or how it should go to the center, or how it should take back ownership of the word "values" away from the GOP and put it back into the hands of Democratic issues. I have also read  criticisms and post-mortems of our most recent efforts to take back our country such as Kerry sucked, Kerry rocked, and Dean would've made a better nominee.

I like the brainstorming I am seeing in this community. It is healthy, and after this recent loss, I'd even go as far as to say it is therapeutic. But in order for it to be productive, I believe we must operate like a thinktank. We must step back from our emotions and analyze why our side lost and why their side won. And most importantly, since the Democratic Party is only as strong as its electorate, I believe we have to figure out who are the voters we lost, and why, in order to bring them back and expand our numbers.
