Now What?? Obama not Liberal enough?

Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 08:31:08 AM PDT

It never ends.  As soon as we get our Magical Unity Pony, and on the very day that the Senator from LaMancha is about to concede, I start reading quips that Obama isn't far left enough, and that far lefties may stay home or vote 3rd Party in November.

From the Department of Repetitiveness Department: H/T to The Red Pen

Sorry!  Actually I don't understand that picture either.  I meant what part of THIS don't you understand?

Some of the quips I'm hearing are that Obama talked to AIPAC.  That Obama doesn't support gay marriage.  That Obama's healthplan is DOOOOOOM!

Sometimes people blow things way out of proportion, and sometimes people fail to see things from the best vantage point.

It looks like, to me, that people are reading tiny elements of speeches or actions without attaching them to the clauses right before and right after them.  This has happened to me plenty of times right here on Kos, when I put a statement in my diary with a qualifier that for some reason half a dozen people don't see, and instead respond to the (often snarky) statement.

I would like those people to relax.  For one, Obama is a really, really, really smart guy.  He doesn't play all his cards at once, and he doesn't reduce his remarks to soundbytes.  I've read almost all his speeches and he's got a depth to his words that I find refreshingly . . . elite.  As in SMARTER THAN ME.  And I have learned, especially through this soul-searingly difficult primary, to trust the man that he's got a goal in mind and that his intentions are for the betterment of America.

I'm not going to FREAK THE FUCK OUT if he doesn't deliver single-payer on day 1.  I want single payer.  Or rather, I want healthcare fixed so much I could just scream.  And I know his plan, on the surface, does not satisfy Paul Krugman and many other people.  However, once in office we're going to see the realities of several things shake out, and the reality is a majority of Americans are wanting a plan that will FIX healthcare.  The dramatic moves in leadership Obama has taken me give me a sense that when it comes time to put this issue in front of Congress, HEALTHCARE WILL GET FIXED.  The number one reason I think this is possible and will actually work in the favor of working Americans this time is that Obama is telling lobbyists to get lost on all levels.  From his campaign.  From the DNC.  That means that whatever plan gets enacted will likely be relatively free of lobbyist cruft.

It's not a bunch of miniscule details.  It's an overall motion that I'm watching.  It's like when you analyze a painting, or a novel, or a film, or a song.  There are tons of details in the plot, or on the picture, or in the scenes, but what makes one of these things work is that it's going in a direction.  A compelling painting is often built around a line of motion.  The details are the artist's style, but his first job as an artist was to see the line of motion.

The details are his style, but Obama's first job is to see a direction as a leader.  I like the direction.  I trust that the details are going to work out in our favor.  So far, I've been rewarded by my trust.  And one of the most trustworthy items to note is that I am one of his campaign contributors.  He's listening to US.  Not lobbyists.  Not PACs.

Citizens.

So please, don't get panties all wadded up over oft-misunderstood details.   Obama is the best leader we've had who is both willing and able to run, in a long time.  So help us put this expression back on John McCain's face:

You don't want that crusty SOB grinning at you like a twit for another four years, do you?

UPDATE:

Though I reserve the right to lampoon under the 1st Amendment, I would also like to use that right here to THANK HILLARY CLINTON for her concession speech today, and Unity.  Help her retire her debt if you are so inclined, and while you're at it help replace a lobbyist's influence at the DNC with your own, and finally don't forget The Big O.  Now read the rest of this diary and let's get to STOMPING John McCain's corrupt right-wing agenda this fall.
