Election day wisdom from an uninsured American

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 11:58:56 AM PDT

I receive lots of emails.

This one awaited me this morning--Super Tuesday.

Simple. Smart. Profound.

It's the damn truth, ain't it?

After the experts speak, after the pundits weigh in, this email says more to me about the fragile yet determined psyche of the American people than all the bloviating you'll hear between now and November 2nd.

Hey nyceve:

I don't have insurance and I don't have healthcare, but I do have a vote.

I'm not well and I'm not rich. If I had some extra cash, I'd try and buy insurance, but chances are I'd be throwing my money away becuase the damn insurance company wouldn't cover me for all the problems I have due to years of neglect.

Now don't get me wrong, nyceve, I haven't neglected myself on purpose or because I wanted to do this, I had no choice--still don't, it's expensive to be sick in America and it's even more expensive to get well.

I don't know why I'm writing to you. Maybe because you get it. Arguing about mandates or no mandates isn't what people like me think about.

We want to know when we can get to see a doctor.  I'll keep doing the only thing I know. I'll go to the ER and pray that we elect a Democrat. Either one would be fine.

Why don't the exit polls ask if we're insured or uninsured? Why don't they ask the last time we got to a doctor?

I still don't know who to vote for, I just want healthcare and I want the person who can deliver it ASAP.

Maybe I'll just close my eyes.

I have no choice but to hang in there and keep hoping.

"I just want healthcare and I want the person who can deliver it ASAP."

Nuff said.
