Win or lose, with class and unity

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 03:35:20 PM PDT

That's what I want most the next couple days. I know it's asking a lot, with all the venom being pumped out by various supporters of differnt candidates.

But we have to think about a few things before we go gonzo, get depressed, or flaunt victories in the faces of other Democrats.

A few very important things must be considered.

The first thing to be considered is a Democratic victory in November. We NEED to ensure that happens. And no matter which candidate you support, Democrats need to support the winning candidate in November.

So do we really want to make Democrats, whether they are Clinton, Edwards or Obama supporters, so angry that they throw their hands up and don't want to work towards a Democratic victory in November?

Being a passionate Obama supporter, I know how I would feel if he lost. Devastated might be putting it lightly. And people need to realize that their own passionate feelings are mirrored by supporters of each candidate. Giving your support to a candidate is personal, and each of us(that have done so) have to try and understand how supporters of other candidates are going to feel afterwards.

Another thing to be considered is the community we have here. This is something special and there are a lot of long time posters here that are valuable to the progressive and Democratic cause. Fracturing the community in a way in which it cannot be repaired does harm to the Democratic party and the progressive cause.

I know it won't be easy, there have been many irritable posters that have been very outspoken and have taunted posters from other candidates. And there are a lot of us who have made posts that we wish we could take back.

I know if Hillary Clinton wins the nomination, I will work for her to win in November. And I would hope that supporters of each candidate pledge to support whomever wins.

But besides that, let us win or lose with class and unity. That's what we need to do for the causes we all believe in.

Thanks to anyone who reads this.
