Rick Santorum wants to bring America back in time - to when it was controlled by rich, white, male land owners.  His attitudes towards women are clear and now it appears that Santorum, in a very public venue, while being filmed, may have started to call President Obama the n-word.  To be sure he caught himself and changed course, but the damage may be done.

Please judge for yourself, it sure sounds like it to me:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  This is bullshit (5+ / 0-)

I fucking hate Santorum. I hate everything about him and everything he stands for. he is a self righteous ass with absolutely no knowledge of American revolutionery history.

Nevertheless, this verbal slip-up really signifies nothing. There is no way we can determine what he was saying or meant to say. Admittedly, it seems like it may be "nigga". But we have no way of knowing.

This is supposed to be a FACT BASED community. latching onto this is not much different than the bozos that insist Obama has no birth certificate.

We need not piss in the wind. If we don't like Santorum, there is plenty of rotting red meat for us to point to. We need not make a mountain out of an anthill.

But this is very different from the birther madness, IMO.

First, there is video.  People can see and hear what Santorum did, even if they disagree on what he said.  Second I am not making definite accusations, I am asking people to view a video and make up their own minds.

If, and again it is not definite, Santorum DID use the n-word when referring to the sitting President of the US, while he knew he was in front of cameras at a campaign stop I think it is very significant.

I think it shows ingrained beliefs (bigotry) and his inability to control what he is saying in a public forum.

There are also more than 45 Million references to this on Google, so it is currently in the public discourse.

Feel free to disagree, but it is not BS, in my opinion.

Some are insisting that he was going to say "negativist". If that was so, then IMO he would simply have corrected himself. He didn't. He knew he messed up and he momentarily lost his train as he attempted to regroup.

the word "negativist" is pronounced with a long "a" sound in the first syllable - rhymes with "bay".  The word Santorum used definitely was a short "i" sound - rhymes with "big".

        Sorry, no pass here either!

The tip off was how garbled his next sentence was - it didn't make any sense at all.  He realized what he almost said and completely lost his train of thought.

clear it's a part of his lexicon.  That couldn't have been a prepared statement.  So that is a word he uses.

I'm sure that's what a lot of them call black elected officials.  Glad he got caught on tape.  Although it won't change the people who support him.

Pre-Obama it was the Religious Right.  Now it's the Racist Religious Right.  And they're proud of it.  At least down here in Texas.  Sick.

Wasn't there an earlier primary/caucus in February for which he gave a CNN interview, talking about groups and used-he claimed- the word "blaaah", when he was going to say Black and not exactly in a complimentary context either?...Am sure he did-I need to do a bit of checking....

  •  Yes he did. (0+ / 0-)

Yesterday I would have said not and it was a slip of the tongue, but I've since been linked to evidence that the phrase in question is common enough among the hard-core racist crowd.  So I think he did.

The word government generally doesn't appear before the word N-word.
    Government N-word??
Don't think so. But, hey, if the Lame Stream Media can pin it on him, why not.
