I am writing this missive as a most humble thank you for my wife Samantha and myself to the members of Daily Kos. It feels horribly inadequate to merely say "thank you". Your kindness and sacrifice have saved not just our home, but so much more.
The members of Daily Kos have exhibited an abundance of what some of those who disagree with you politically claim sole ownership of. But with them it has become mere words. What I have received from the members of this site, was a reality. And I am not referring to mere money. Call it Christian charity, or Jewish tzedakah, or Islamic Zakat, the Hindu dharma, or what I prefer to think of as humanity. Whatever the terminology, it has given us life. And the only way I can conceive to truly thank you, is to move forward, continue to post my little history columns, get back on my feet and pass on your generosity to others.

The funds you have provided have paid the back taxes on our home, and helped to pay a part of the taxes for this coming year. We are using the physical assistance provided from members of this site to fight back, and obtain a reduction in those taxes for future years and hopefully credit for past years. I hope that is what you all would have intended. And to those who could not assist, please be assured we understand. Although the funds were essential to our immediate needs, food without warmth is not a meal. And what I felt from your avalanche of concern and sympathy was as at least as great a support as the actual funds.

What you have done is amazing, startling, stunning. You are amazing. You should remember that. In the end (and in the beginning) it is not about politics. It is about believing in the nobility of humanity.

Thank you.
